Back to School Sales Tax Holiday

Great news, parents! The 2023 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday of Florida is scheduled to commence on Monday, July 24, 2023, and conclude on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Additionally, there is a second Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday set to take place from Monday, January 1, 2024, until Sunday, January 14, 2024. The passed Florida legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis allows shoppers enjoy tax-free purchases during these periods, making it an excellent opportunity to save on back-to-school supplies and essentials.

Throughout the sales tax holiday period, no tax will be applied to the retail sale of the following items:

  • Clothing, footwear, and specific accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item.
  • Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item.
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less.
  • Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when intended for home or personal use, non-commercial.

The sales tax holiday excludes the following items:

  • Clothing with a sales price exceeding $100.
  • School supply items with a sales price exceeding $50.
  • Books that are not otherwise exempt.
  • Computers and computer-related accessories with a sales price surpassing $1,500.
  • Computers and computer-related accessories purchased for commercial purposes.
  • Rentals of any eligible items.
  • Repairs or alterations of any eligible items.
  • Sales of any eligible items within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport.
